Perinatal Exposure to Diesel Exhaust-Origin Secondary Organic Aerosol Induces Autism-Like Behavior in Rats

چکیده
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental characterized by impaired social communication, poor interactions, and repetitive behaviors. We aimed to examine autism-like behaviors related gene expressions in rats exposed diesel exhaust (DE)-origin secondary organic aerosol (DE-SOA) perinatally. Sprague–Dawley pregnant were clean air (control), DE, DE-SOA the exposure chamber from gestational day 14 postnatal 21. Behavioral phenotypes of ASD investigated 10~13-week-old offspring using three-chambered behavior test, dominance tube marble burying test. Prefrontal cortex was collected molecular analyses including neurological immunological markers glutamate concentration, RT-PCR ELISA methods. DE-SOA-exposed male female showed sociability novelty preference, socially dominant behavior, increased behavior. Serotonin receptor (5-HT(5B)) brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNAs downregulated whereas interleukin 1 ? (IL-?) heme oxygenase (HO-1) upregulated prefrontal DE-SOA. Glutamate concentration also significantly rats. Our results indicate that perinatal may induce modulating molecules such as

Nano-Sized Secondary Organic Aerosol of Diesel Engine Exhaust Origin Impairs Olfactory-Based Spatial Learning Performance in Preweaning Mice
The aims of our present study were to establish a novel olfactory-based spatial learning test and to examine the effects of exposure to nano-sized diesel exhaust-origin secondary organic aerosol (SOA), a model environmental pollutant, on the learning performance in preweaning mice. Pregnant BALB/c mice were exposed to clean air, diesel exhaust (DE), or DE-origin SOA (DE-SOA) from gestational da...
متن کاملAcute Decreases in Proteasome Pathway Activity after Inhalation of Fresh Diesel Exhaust or Secondary Organic Aerosol
BACKGROUND Epidemiologic studies consistently demonstrate an association between acute cardiopulmonary events and changes in air pollution; however, the mechanisms that underlie these associations are not completely understood. Oxidative stress and inflammation have been suggested to play a role in human responses to air pollution. The proteasome is an intracellular protein degradation system l...
متن کاملExposure to diesel exhaust particulates induces cardiac dysfunction and remodeling.
Chronic exposure to diesel exhaust particulates (DEP) increases the risk of cardiovascular disease in urban residents, predisposing them to the development of several cardiovascular stresses, including myocardial infarctions, arrhythmias, thrombosis, and heart failure. DEP contain a high level of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which activate the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR). We hypothesiz...
متن کاملSecondary organic aerosol production from diesel vehicle exhaust: impact of aftertreatment, fuel chemistry and driving cycle
Environmental chamber (“smog chamber”) experiments were conducted to investigate secondary organic aerosol (SOA) production from dilute emissions from two medium-duty diesel vehicles (MDDVs) and three heavyduty diesel vehicles (HDDVs) under urban-like conditions. Some of the vehicles were equipped with emission control aftertreatment devices, including diesel particulate filters (DPFs), selecti...
متن کاملOccupational exposure to diesel exhaust fumes.
There is currently no OEL for diesel fumes in the UK. This study reports parallel measurements of airborne levels of diesel fume pollutants in nine distribution depots where diesel powered fork-lift trucks (FLTs) were in use. Correlations between individual pollutants are assessed as well as their spatial distribution. Samples were collected on board FLTs and at background positions at nine dis...
